West Bar Square
|Client||URBO (West Bar) Ltd|
|Sector||Masterplanning & Architecture|
We have developed a masterplan for 1.5 million sq.ft. of mixed-use accommodation in Sheffield City Centre for developers Urbo working in collaboration with Urbed and Planit. The proposals for a flexible framework are designed to be adaptable to the specific requirements of potential workplace occupiers, residents and responsive to market demands.
Based on sound place-making and commercial design principles the masterplan provides a framework for a vibrant, sustainable destination with a strong sense of identity. Key character areas are defined to give a distinctive quality to the streets and spaces. Two significant public spaces anchor the proposals; the main 10,000 sq.ft. West Bar Square to the south has a commercial character whilst the quieter, Kelham Square to the north has a semi-private, residential feel.
The proposals incorporate a variety of building scales, acknowledging key gateways with the placement of a 16 storey residential building to the north and a 13 storey landmark to the south west. Outline Planning Consent is expected in January 2017.
